18 Small talk
"I see." Lili replied as I finish telling her my story about my recent events. "I feel you dude."
"Thanks." I said as the two of us continued to go down the side walk. "So what you been up to lately?"
"Ah, just climbing in the arena. Oh, by the time way, the round I was with you on my team, we actually won!"
"You mean...The one with the headless guy?"
"Yeah dude! You brought enough time for me to attack him from behind. I sliced up into half and it was pretty much gg for him."
"Dude that reminds me! You wanna duo que next time?"
"Yeah, in the arena. 5v5 mode. That ability you showed back there, I never seen it before!"
"Oh you mean stopping the blade?"
"Yeah! I remember how you also stopped Isa's flames that night as well."
"Huh...I don't know about that one. Like, I don't even know how that ability even works."
"Oh." Lili's voice dropped. "But still, your demonic powers would be quite useful."
"I suppose." I said, as we took a turn around the corner and stopped right in front of the liquor store.
"Huh..." I turned to Lili and asked: "What's the legal drinking age of this world?"
"There are no age limits what are you talking about my dude?" Lili looked at me as if I was high.
"Oh ok." I said as we both walked into the store. And once inside, I went over the counter and asked the storekeeper:
"Where's the Vodka?"
For a moment the store keeper said nothing, as he stared down at his questionable magazine. After the moment passed, he shot a quick glance at me and spoke in a bored voice.
"Another fresh meat running her errand huh?..." he said without looking up from his magazine.
"She had another one before me?" I raised a brow.
"Tons, betcha they all smoked meat now." The man replied with a heavy Russian accent.
A chill ran down my spine.
"Vodka in aisle 3 in the back."
"Oh...Oh thanks." I said as I began to head towards the back of the aisle.
"So Lili..." I asked.
"Yeah?" she casually responded, as she walked with both hand behind her head in a relaxed position.
"Why do you fight in the arena?"
"Oh that. I just like to rekt noobs. Plus you can make a living out of it."
"I see. Can you tell me more about the arena?"
"Sure. Think of the magic arena as a video game, so basically there are magic arena set up across the entire world, but regardless of any country or region, they are all on one server."
"There are 7 ranks in total within the arena, not counting unranked. The lowest rank is water 7 and you literally have to have negative points to be there. And the highest rank being challenjor, in which you need over 9000 points to become one. And currently there are only about 300 challenjors in the entire world."
"So what rank are you right now?" I asked.
"Silver 1680." Lili said, then all of sudden she stopped herself. "Man, I used to be gold, but then I qued up with a bunch of silver and bronze friends, that's why I am stuck in silver right now." Lili let out a sigh, as she dropped her arms in frustration.
"Feels bad." I said, as I stopped at the designated and began picking up the vodka and putting them into the basket.
"Yeah, feels bad man."
"So, what rank am I right now?" I asked.
"I am guessing you haven't a played a single arena game since that round. So you are still unranked. You have to finish your 10 placement matches, once that is done, you will be placed in a rank between Bronze to Diamond."
"I see..." I said as I picked up the basket and walked back to the cashier. And lazily, the man got up from his chair, and began scanning the bottle one by one.
"You are going to pay with her phone?" the man asked.
"Yeah..." I said.
"That will be 270.27$ in total. Just tap the phone on this scanner here." The man instructed.
I did as the man told and tapped Isa's phone on the scanner. A moment later, the word 'approved' popped up on the machine, then disappeared and was replaced with another message:
[In Yang we trust]
Who the hell is Yang?
It was at the same time I noticed the time displayed on the right hand corner of the screen, and immediately I feel this deathly chill from inside to out.
Ain't nobody got time for that! I gotta go now!
Q: Do you play competitive games?
